Dighton Reads

Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Library Builiding

Dighton Reads is made possible through a grant from the Library Services and Technology Act, awarded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

The Library's challenge to Dighton residents is to get all of us reading the same book. Shoeless Joe was chosen because of it emphasis on community, dreams, redemption and "going for it" despite the odds.

Shoeless Joe by W.P. Kinsella--The voice of a baseball announcer tells the Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella: "If you build it, he will come." "He" is Shoeless Joe Jackson, Ray's hero. "It" is a baseball stadium which Ray carves out of his cornfield. Like the movie Field Of Dreams that was made from this novel, Shoeless Joe is about baseball. But it's also about love and power of dreams to make people come alive... From the paperback edition courtesy of Bowker's Books in Print Professional Edition.

Please look for your copy to read around town and at the Library. Share the book with your friends, and look for in-person discussions and online discussions in April 2010.

The Dighton Reads program includes special events for adults and children, a new Wii gaming system, Wii games, new sports DVDs, and new baseball books. To learn more about events click on this link to the:
