Myth Busting Lizzie Borden

Lizzie Borden

Lizzie Borden still fascinates. She intrigues us mostly because, even after 132 years, we know very little about her private life. After her acquittal for the murder of her father and stepmother, she remained in Fall River, Massachusetts, and spoke to no one publicly about the case ever again. And yet, there have been more than thirty so-called nonfiction accounts of her to appear in print. What exactly do we know about Lizzie A. Borden? And how has her particular story become more urban legend than authentic narrative? Join Stefani Koorey at Old Town Hall on Thursday March 28th at 6:30 as she speaks to some of the myths that persist surrounding the case.

Dr. Stefani Koorey is a Fall River historian, expert on the Borden murders of 1892, and owner of the website LizzieAndrewBorden.com, the Lizzie Borden Society Forum, and PearTree Press, an independent book publishing business that produces work related to Fall River History, True Crime, and the 1892 Borden Murders. She is the author of several books, including Fall River Revisited, Historic Fires of Fall River, and several books on the Lizzie Borden case. While her PhD is in theatre history, she is very involved in writing and speaking about the history of the New England region. She holds an MA in theatre arts, and MFA in theatre management, an MS in library science/digital libraries, and a PhD in theatre history and dramatic criticism.
